TL;DR: TalkKey processes your voice locally on your device. We don't collect, store, or transmit your audio recordings or transcriptions.
Overview
TalkKey is a voice-to-text application for macOS. Your privacy is important to us, and we've designed TalkKey to keep your data on your device.
What Data We Collect
We don't collect any personal data. TalkKey operates entirely on your device:
- Audio recordings are processed locally and immediately deleted after transcription
- Transcribed text stays on your device
- No analytics or tracking
- No account required
Local Processing
TalkKey uses WhisperKit, an on-device speech recognition technology. All voice processing happens locally on your Mac using Apple Silicon's Neural Engine. Your audio never leaves your device.
Permissions
TalkKey requires the following permissions to function:
- Microphone: To record your voice for transcription
- Accessibility: To paste transcribed text into other applications
These permissions are used solely for the app's core functionality.
Data Storage
TalkKey stores minimal data locally on your device:
- App preferences and settings
- Usage statistics (words transcribed, time saved) — stored locally only
- Downloaded AI models (if you choose to download additional models)
All data is stored in your Mac's standard application directories and can be removed by deleting the app.
Third-Party Services
TalkKey does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
If you choose to download additional AI models, these are fetched from Hugging Face's public model repository.
Children's Privacy
TalkKey is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date.
